How to Anoint Amulets in Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5

If you’ve been clicking around your inventory wondering why your Distilled Emotions aren’t opening up the crafting window anymore, you aren’t alone. Path of Exile 2’s Patch 0.5 (Return of the Ancients) completely overhauled how we anoint—or "instill"—our amulets.
Gone are the days of right-clicking a Distilled Emotion anywhere in the world to get your favorite notable passive. GGG has moved the entire system into the new Delirium endgame hub, which means you have a bit of legwork to do before you can get that massive power spike on your neck piece.
Here is a quick, no-nonsense guide on how to unlock the new station and get your amulet anointed in Patch 0.5.
Step 1: Unlock the Withered Willow Hub
Before you can do anything, you need to find the new Delirium hub, which is called The Withered Willow. It is located just southwest of your starting point on the endgame Atlas.
To reveal it, you just need to play the game naturally until you run into a Mirror of Delirium inside a map. Doing this triggers an encounter with a new NPC named Elder Madox. Once you talk to him, he will mark the location of The Withered Willow directly onto your Atlas map.
Step 2: Complete the Delirium Questline
When you first arrive at The Withered Willow, you'll notice the crafting station—the Decanter of Madness—is locked. Elder Madox won't let you use it right away. You have to prove yourself by completing a short questline called "Strange Reflection."
  • Talk to Elder Madox at the hub to pick up a Delirium Tablet.
  • Go run Delirium-afflicted maps and take down 5 delirious map bosses.
  • Head back to the hub and turn the quest in to Madox.

Once the quest is handed in, the Decanter of Madness will permanently unlock.
Step 3: Find Your Recipe
Distilled Emotions used to be called Liquid Emotions, but the underlying system is still fairly similar. Before you start crafting, you need to know exactly what you need.
  • Open your Passive Skill Tree (default key is P).
  • Find the Notable Passive Skill you want to put on your amulet and hover your mouse over it.
  • Hold down the Alt key.

This will show a preview detailing the names and colors of the three specific Distilled Emotions required for that node.
Step 4: Anoint at the Decanter of Madness
With your materials in hand, head back to The Withered Willow and click on the Decanter of Madness.
Pop your amulet into the top slot of the interface, and place your three Distilled Emotions into the three bottom slots. Pay close attention here: order absolutely matters. You must place the emotions from left to right in the exact sequence shown when you checked the skill tree preview.
Double-check the preview window to make sure the target passive skill matches what you actually want, and then click Instil. The station will consume your emotions, and your amulet will now carry the node.
A Few Restrictions to Keep in Mind
Before you potentially waste some incredibly rare emotions, keep these rules in mind:
  • Corrupted Items: If your amulet is corrupted, it’s locked out. Corrupted items cannot be anointed.
  • Sanctified Items: If you plan on sanctifying your amulet, make sure you anoint it first. Sanctifying locks the item's modifiers completely, which prevents you from adding or changing an anointment later.
  • Overwriting: If you change your build and need a different notable, you can overwrite an old anointment by simply running the process again with a new set of emotions. Just keep in mind that the old emotions are gone for good—you won't get them back.
